{The And}: The first project of The Skin Deep is {The And} - an interactive documentary experience that explores the dynamics of modern relationships by bringing the viewer into the emotional space of real life couples. Merging interactive web design, innovative storytelling, and tryptic filmmaking, this interactive documentary presents a unique take on various types of human relationships.

{The And} Game at FilmGate Interactive: The makers of this innovative documentary will create an experience at FilmGate Interactive that reflects the spirit of the {The And}. This interactive performance and screening gives attendees of the event the experience of being both a participant and a viewer. LOCATION-BASED STORYTELLING WITH ROUNDWARE

An MIT Open Documentary Lab

VENUE: MIAMI BEACH CINEMATHEQUE

DATE: Saturday, February 7th, 1PM - 3PM

Documentary filmmaker Sean Flynn and sound artist Halsey Burgund will discuss some of the research being conducted at MIT’s Open Documentary Lab, followed by a hands-on workshop using the open-source mobile platform Roundware to create a location-based audio documentary.

We will experiment with the Roundware platform’s ability to:

  • create seamless location-sensitive soundscapes comprised of musical elements and participant commentary in any geographic locale
  • serve individualized audio streams to users in a flexible non-linear way based on participant inputs
  • collect audio from participants via iOS, Android and web-based devices
  • tag collected audio with location information as well as any additional project-based metadata to allow for tailoring possibilities
  • curate a collection of participant and creator contributed audio content

Participants will learn about the platform as well as go outside and experience a Roundware installation and contribute to it in real-time.  Roundware has been used primarily for sound art installations and next-generation interpretive museum audio experiences, but the possibilities for documentary "story-spaces" are significant.  Come help us explore new ways to use place-based audio to create non-linear, individualized documentary experiences.

*No technical or filmmaking skills necessary, but please bring an iOS device, preferably an iPhone, if you have one in order to experience the demo in the field and help collect additional content.

The Invisible Season

An Interactive Exhibit

VENUE: ART DECO WELCOME CENTER

DATES: FEBRUARY 3 - 8

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Bloodlines cross and converge as nuclear fallout survivors live through Japan's nuclear winter, resulting in a chronicle of, and a testament to, the humanity of the Fukushima residents in the face of unspeakable odds

Set in post meltdown Fukushima nearly four years after the calamitous meltdown. The Invisible Season, a feature length film and web doc creates an impassioned portrait of a quartet of residents as they strive to hold on to their identity and ancestral heritage while the spectre of nuclear fallout looms over them. Rather than abandon the land they love, they have decided to remain, accepting the consequences of their fateful decisions.

Scenes from Fukushima and the tsunami battered coast will be projected onto multiple screens of translucent mesh, creating an immersive scene of abandoned coastal areas of Japan.

The exhibit will feature videos of survivor testimony, documentation of rising sea levels, and the issues we all face due to the rising waters. While the devastation caused in Northern Japan was due to a Tsunami, owing to seismic make forces, the region is coping with global rising sea levels, an issue that effects every coastal community throughout the globe.

FILMGATE PRESENTS
IN COLLABORATION WITH GRASS STAINS

Jacqueries is a political heist story told through movement — an inside-out experience of conspiracy, security theatre, and solidarity, inspired by parkour’s co-opting of urban space. The audience follows individual performers from scene to scene through undisclosed South Beach urban locations, linked by a custom iPhone app playing synchronized sound and showing 3D video overlays. With a score by multiple Dora award-winning composer John Gzowski and “eye-popping” augmented-reality video, Jacqueries “is almost like being in your own video game, except it's real.” (Michael Crabb, Toronto Star)

Reboot Stories designs these gatherings around sharing ideas and resources that help move inspiration to action. Our events and labs are gatherings for ad-hoc groups to meet, ideate, and work out concepts for common good.
